darlene tom | bay area photographer bio picture
  • welcome to my blogsite!

thanks for visiting! i'm darlene tom, a bay area portrait photographer. 2010 is the year of change....in a good way! :) after being a studio photographer for six years, i'm now an on-location all-natural light photographer. i'm finding out how fun, spontaneous and creative this new way of photographing is. i photograph kids and families, but i'll always be a baby photographer at heart...i love love love photographing babies!

with each session i do, i find that i learn and grow so much. what better way to chronicle the changes in style and share my latest work than with a blog....and in the interest of simplicity, i've combined my blog with my website to make a blogsite. it's still a work in progress, but i think for now there's enough info and images for you to get a feel for what i do. so take a look around and give me a call so we can start designing your portrait session. the images we create are sure to become the most treasured kind of art by celebrating your life.

looking forward to talking with you soon.
    :) darlene

newborns.

so sweet. so precious. those first few sleepless days go by in the blink of an eye, and most parents aren’t even thinking about taking their little baby to get portraits taken. but it’s in the first month or two that babies go through an amazing transformation. in a matter of weeks they won’t even resemble the newborns they once were! i wish i had more pictures of when my boys were that little…but i guess i just thought “i’m too tired, i’ll do it later…” and then bam! before i knew it, i missed it. don’t make the same mistake i did!

this special is for all those new parents and parents-to-be out there…a complimentary newborn session* for babies who are younger than 10 days old. let’s capture those memories you want to remember…the tiny feet, the cute froggy legs, the forehead crinkle, and if we’re lucky we can even get the newborn pucker! your little newborn will never be this tiny again…call me now to capture this special time. you’ll be so glad you did.

call to reserve your newborn session in may (even if your baby isn’t born yet) and receive 10% off any portrait collection.

*additional fee for travel outside the tri-valley/east bay or portraits with extended family.

photography class for the cure

learn how to take better photos AND raise $ for a good cause!

this year i’ve committed to raising over $3500 for the Susan G. Komen 3 Day for the Cure.  i knew i’d have to do some creative fundraising!  so first up is a photography class…

learn how to turn off your flash and use custom camera settings to instantly improve your photography. i will also share other tools, tips and techniques that can be used to create eye-catching snapshots. this is a two-part class that will meet in san ramon on tuesdays, 4/13 & 4/20, from 7 – 10 p.m. bring photos for critique, your camera manual, and questions. the cost is a minimum $60 donation that can be made at www.the3day.org/goto/darlenetom. deadline to register is april 9, 2010 and space is limited.

all proceeds from this class will benefit the susan g. komen 3 day for the cure. to sign up, visit www.the3day.org/goto/darlenetom and donate $60 or more, then send me a message or e-mail letting me know you’d like to come to the class. my goal is to raise over $3500 for the cure in less than 6 months, so please share this with a friend! thanks.:)

private lessons are also available in your home. these start at $200. call or e-mail for details.

spring has sprung!

mommy & me | dublin mom

this pretty mom was my very first client (that i didn’t know, lol) way back when…i’ve seen her family grow from just the three of them to now a family of five.  i feel like part of the family after watching her babies grow from little babies to rockin’ toddlers to amazing kids.   i love the hugs i get from all the kids, especially her oldest, who swears he remembers me photographing him when he was a baby!   here’s the most recent session with her baby girl.  beautiful!

brothers.

i love photographing little boys. maybe it’s because i have four of my own?  these little guys reminded me of when my guys were that age…it was so fun to watch them play together. it was one of those days where the sun popped out after days of rain, so needless to say we spent much of our time outside! it’s obvious they’re buddies for life!
